Don's Plaque
Jan Ploeg with the aid of Angela Van Wijgerden, Paul and Myriam Woodage, Reg and Anne Jans, Frank de Rudder and many others; all of whom have worked and donated in time and funds for many months to create and place a plaque for the men and women who fought for peace in Europe and the world during WWII. Jan Ploeg was the first to form the groundwork for the plaque and worked tirelessly to begin a council to fulfill the dream of the plaque to be dedicated in the name of Donald R. Burgett, Able Co., 506, 101st Abn, WWII. In the final words on the plaque: As a writer of 4 classic books chronicling his combat experiences, as well as those of his fellow paratroopers during the defining conflict of the 20th Century, few men have done more to preserve the fine history of the Screaming Eagles, and paratroopers everwhere than Sgt. Burgett. This plaque is a thank you from his friends. The question of where to place the plaque in Normandy was answered by the gracious acceptance of Mr. Charles de Vallavielle, Director of the Utah Beach Museum that we are afforded the honor to place the plaque where it will be for all to see and honor those who fought, lived and died in the name of freedom. To Mr. Charles de Vallavielle, our warmest and deepest heartfelt gratitude.
